Future Rockstar

I was able to finish and turn in my "Future Rockstar" basket that was featured in a couple of my previous posts this evening.  It always feels good to finish a large project.  This one is headed to the Shiel Mardi Gras celebration as a silent auction basket.  It is a wonderful fundraiser for our church that Dane and I have truly enjoyed being a part of when we have been able to attend.

In other news Dane had an audition today.  This probably would seem normal to most musicians, and two years ago would have been completely normal to us, too.  However, I view this one as a special blessing to our family because it was the first time he sang an aria in public since his surgery a year ago.  What made it even more special was that he said it went really well.  The past year was full of uncertainty, however, I believe that it has also made Dane and I more focused on and thankful for the blessings that we have been given each and every day.

Singer

I love this old sewing machine.  It was my moms and if I remember right one of her wedding gifts.   I made 4-H projects and practiced the sewing skills I learned from my grandma and Aunt Bonnie.  It's one of my favorite things in our apartment.

Mom has often asked me, "Wouldn't you like a newer model...one that does embroidery and stuff?"  I will most likely always say no.  The memories I have with this one are way to important for me to move on to a fancier one.  Plus, let's be honest...I'm not exactly ready for Project Runway.  This one does everything I need.

About a year after I married and moved out, mom generously gave her sewing machine to me.  I would love to tell you I jumped in and picked up right where I left off, but I can't.  In all honesty it sat for about a year on my craft table, except for the occasional ripped seam. Thankfully, my close friend, Hannah unknowingly encouraged me to pick up sewing again.  After talking to her and hearing about how she was making a few pieces, I decided to thread it up and try it again.  I am thankful to say I am once again hooked.  I've been able to make baby gifts, household items, and even a skirt.  Thanks to Hannah and my mom, this vintage beauty keeps stitching together more memories for me.
